Seven Things Highly Productive People Do

Seven Things that Productive People Do

To continue my thread on productivity and tips, here is another “Seven Things” article, my favorite format for behavioral tips.  This one was published in Inc. Magazine in December and was shared on LinkedIn by a respected colleague.  Developed by Tony Wong, a Project Management Blackbelt with clients like Toyota, Honda and Disney, these tips were written up by Ilya Pozin and are heavy on how to handle email.  Here are the highlights:

  • 1. Work backwards from goals to milestones to tasks.
  • 2. Stop multi-tasking. Changing tasks more than 10 times in a day makes you dumber than being stoned.
  • 3. Be militant about eliminating distractions. Complete your tasks.
  • 4. Pick only two or three times during the day when you’re going to use your email.
  • 5. Use the phone. Don’t reply more than twice to an email.
  • 6. Work on your own agenda. Don’t let something else set your day.
  • 7. Work in 60 to 90 minute intervals. Your brain uses up more glucose than any other bodily activity.

Now, THAT was a useful distraction.  Now back to work!
