According to one report, the most common reason startup founders move is because they are seeking investment opportunities, early customers, a larger market, or access to a startup accelerator. However, relocating a startup is far from simple.
According to Alfredo Palacios, a tax partner at JA Del Río, an accounting firm focused on helping companies do business in Latin America, moving a business to a new country can be challenging due to the complexity of flip transactions.
On June 29, Palacios will host a webinar for Founders Network members where he’ll discuss the importance of planning and structuring a flip transaction. He’ll also explain how unreasonable calculations, unrealistic valuations, and missing or incorrect information can generate a significant tax risk for shareholders.

About the Speaker:
Alfredo graduated in Public Accounting from the Instituto Tecnológico de Ciudad Guzmán. He has a master’s degree in Tax from the Instituto de Especialización para Ejecutivos, a diploma in International Taxation from the ITAM-Duke University, a diploma in International and European Taxation from the University of Maastricht, and a master’s degree in Global Tax Management and Compliance from the Faculdade Brasileira de Tributação.
He joined JA Del Río in 2009, specializing in international taxation, providing advice to multinational companies operating in Mexico and Mexican companies operating abroad. His practice also includes tax aspects in mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs, and liquidations in Mexico.
Alfredo has built solid teams, supporting the growth and development of his people. He is always looking for closeness with our clients, certain that his team is his best support.
He is currently the partner in charge of the Guadalajara office.
