In 2021 startup funding broke records. With all that money floating around, it can be easy to lose your head, but according to venture capitalist Augustin Sayer, a bull market is the wrong time to lose your discipline.
Sayer is a partner at Newfund Capital, a transatlantic VC fund with offices in Paris and San Francisco that specializes in seed-stage funding. At a Founders Network webinar on Jan. 22, 2022, Sayer will explain the ins and outs raising seed funds in a bull market.
As a former entrepreneur turned VC, Sayer says there’s a reason funds prefer to invest with second time entrepreneurs. The webinar is designed to help founders avoid first-time entrepreneur mistakes and learn how to effectively talk to VCs.
“There is a science to talking to venture capitalists and adapting your speech to the VC you have across from you,” Sayer says. “All VCs are different and they don’t want to hear the same things.

About Augustin Sayer:
Born in Paris, raised in New York, Augustin started his career in M&A at Lazard New York then joined the Private Equity team at Colony Capital. In 2015, he moved to Mexico to start Rescata, a smartphone repair retail chain. In two years, the company opened 30 stores, growing to 90 employees. Finally in 2017, he joined a French-American seed fund called Newfund Capital. Based in Paris, he’s been focusing on fintech and deeptech investments, and more recently broadened his scope to the longevity space. He focused on investments in France and/or Israel-based teams.
