Shrock discusses his path to launching a business based on information gaps he experienced after working in the medical field since 1994.

If you look on medical provider directory ZocDoc, you won’t find Dr. Kevin Shrock, even though he trained at Yale, Stanford, and Harvard, and has spent more than 28 years practicing orthopaedic surgery in Florida. That’s because ZocDoc charges providers $80 per referral – even for patients who don’t show up!

Despite being one of the most visible online medical provider directories in some markets, ZocDoc is by no means contains an exhaustive list. So when it comes to advertising their services online or finding other providers to refer patients to, many doctors are in the dark. As a result, so are most patients.

“We need a directory more like the White Pages – every provider must be listed and their information kept up to date,” Shrock says.

That’s what he has created with WhichDocs, a crowd-sourced database of physicians that expedites the process of getting a patient to the right medical provider. Giving providers a tool that saves them time and money while attracting new patients, are among the incentives for providers to keep their online info updated.

On Nov. 29, Shrock will host a webinar for Founders Network members in which he’ll discuss his path to launching a business based on information gaps he’s experienced after working in the medical field since 1994.

During his webinar, Shrock will also discuss:

  • Some unique challenges of healthcare startups
  • Startup challenges for a non-techie
  • Working to fund your startup
  • Mentors/Accelerators/Investors

About the Speaker:

Dr. Kevin Shrock is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and is fellowship-trained in sports medicine. His expertise includes arthroscopic and complex reconstruction of the shoulder and knee as well as shoulder, hip, and knee joint replacement, even in younger, more athletic patients. He has practiced in South Florida since 1994.

After receiving a B.S. in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics magna cum laude from Yale University, Dr. Shrock received his medical degree from Stanford University Medical School. He completed his internship in general surgery at Northwestern University/McGaw Medical Center and his orthopaedic residency at the Harvard University/Massachusetts General Hospital Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program.

In 2008, Dr. Shrock was elected by his South Florida orthopaedic colleagues to the Board of the Florida Orthopaedic Society. He was then elected by his peers to the Board of Councilors (BOC) of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) as a Florida Representative and is now serving his second three year term. Last year he was elected as the Chairman of its Committee on Professionalism and also appointed to the Executive Board of the BOC.

A three-time Ivy League and three-time New England All-Around gymnastic champion at Yale, Dr. Shrock has served as a staff orthopaedic consultant for the USA Gymnastics Team and helps provide knowledgeable orthopaedic care for local gymnasts and other competitive athletes. Additionally, his orthopaedic trauma and general orthopaedics expertise made his presence volunteering in Haiti invaluable immediately after its devastating earthquake. He and his family have remained active promoters and fundraisers for the Alyn Pediatric Rehab Hospital in Jerusalem.

About WhichDocs:

WhichDocs is the only B2B and B2C cloud-based searchable physician directory. It aims to enhance the efficiency of patient referrals and access. WhichDoc uses program-led growth by partnering with county and state medical societies whose members generate multiple patient referrals daily. By using physicians’ rankings of other physicians, WhichDocs allows customers to be sure the selected provider is well regarded by their peers, accepts the patient’s insurance, is located nearby, and even whether they have same day availability.

Testimonials

If you don't have a cohort group in something like Founders Network that you can develop long-term relationships with and discuss the same topics that come up with people that you already know, you're probably missing out on something very important.

David Plonsky

The number one advantage is the law of compound interest. The longer you stay in a very high-quality network the strong and more authentic relationships you build.

Chaitanya Vaidya

We know each other's business and we know each other's struggles. Having a personal relationship with other founders that is completely confidential and completely authentic gives you a lot of great advice.

Doug Lessing

FN manages my network for me by connecting me with other founders in my specific industry sector. I've been able to explore business development opportunities, partnerships, etc.

Becky Splitt

We just saw the first Mexican unicorn come to life this same week which is a fantastic idea. Being part of the Founders Network makes a lot of sense. We see that the Mexico City chapter is growing substantially.

Max Linares

There's a lot of great stuff going on even now in San Francisco. I've found Founders Network has been a great resource for me and for all of the founders I know during these tough times.

Jarie Bolander

It allowed me to meet people who had done this before that had the experience. I was able to explain an issue very briefly and they were able to give me a very detailed response on how they addressed it.

Terence Finn

I've used the platform to discover advice, connections, resources, discounts, on important services, connections to investors, and practice on how to pitch. The kind of conversations you can't get anywhere else on youtube or google searches.

Alexandra Greenhill

I see Founders Network as one of those necessary resources in the Chicagoland area.

Jason Jacobsohn

The Black Founders initiative allows me to shape this program where we can inspire, engage, and support Black Founders.
